Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide in Agriculture

Hydrogen peroxide has properties capable of destroying germs and pathogenic organisms by oxidation. For this reason, it is considered a natural disinfectant by farmers and by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), an institution that allows its use in organic and conventional agriculture. It is also useful in providing oxygen to the roots and accelerating the germination process. These are its main uses in this industry:

Hydrogen peroxide is used in crop irrigation processes or hyonic systems to eliminate contaminating microorganisms or those that may damage plantations. Germination can be accelerated by up to 50% thanks to hydrogen peroxide that oxygenates the substrates and roots, while preventing the presence and spread of bacteria and fungi. Similarly, hydrogen peroxide, in certain amounts, favors the absorption of nutrients more easily, that is, it has a fertilizing action.

Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide in Medicine

Hydrogen peroxide is one of the elements that is never lacking in first aid kits due to its disinfectant properties. Some leukocytes in the blood naturally produce hydrogen peroxide that works as a defense method against bacteria, viruses, toxins, fungi and other contaminants that pose a risk to the body. For this reason, applying hydrogen peroxide to wounds or cuts not only helps prevent infection but also stimulates healing. Additionally, it is a widely used element in surgery rooms due to the reasons already mentioned. 

Hydrogen Peroxide in Aesthetics

Since it has a decomposing effect on melanin, it is used as a bleach in beauty salons and in some hair products. Additionally, due to its oxidation potential, it is ideal for achieving uniform color tints and for neutralizing tones that need to be balanced.

Hydrogen Peroxide in Food Processing

Hydrogen peroxide is often used in food preparation, however, it is used during the first part of the process: in cleaning vegetables, meat, chicken and other foods that may have been exposed to bacteria, fungi, pesticides and other agents that may harm people's health.
